Our approach is a bit different than just traditional talk therapy.

One of our core intentions is to treat the whole self, by including both the mind and body in treatment. The focus on the emotional and cognitive self is imperative when working towards healing and peace within.

In addition, we strive to to enhance traditional talk therapy with holistic supplemental services that allow for full integration of the mind, body and spirit. We work in collaboration to develop a unique treatment plan to fit your needs.

wHAT IS IT?

Our supplemental holistic services are an opportunity to further incorporate the mind, body and spirit into your healing process. Emotions and thought patterns can contribute to imbalances within the body, and therapies like visualization, gentle yoga, exercise, sound healing, meditation, energy healing, acupuncture, massage, and breathwork can be used to reestablish balance and heal the whole self.

how does it work?

You will work with your therapist to determine what (if any) holistic practices are appropriate for your specific history, presenting concern and treatment goals. The intention is to enhance your individual therapy with these supplemental holistic services. You will create a specific plan when it comes to the timing of the integration.

The benefits

Mind body therapies can be invaluable tools for increasing awareness of the body’s biological processes, such as heart rate, breathing patterns and nervous system regulation. Additionally, these therapies can help you become more empowered to better manage emotions, while better managing the neurophysiological impacts. They offer a space for release and relief.

What does this look like?

Supplemental Holistic Offerings

  • Naturopathic Medicine

Naturopathic medicine emphasizes prevention and the self-healing process through the use of natural therapies.

Naturopathic doctors (NDs) are primary care physicians who blend centuries-old knowledge and a philosophy that nature is the most effective healer with current research on health and human systems. They have attended a four-year naturopathic medical school, are clinically trained, and work in all aspects of family health.

Naturopathic diagnosis focuses on identifying the underlying causes of disease, while naturopathic therapies are supported by research drawn from peer-reviewed journals from many disciplines, including naturopathic medicine, conventional medicine, European complementary medicine, clinical nutrition, phytotherapy, pharmacognosy, homeopathy, psychology and spirituality.

  • Acupunture

Acupuncture is just one form of therapy used within the coherent system of healing known as Traditional Oriental Medicine (TCM). According to Nenita McElroy, a licensed and certified acupuncturist, “the intention of acupuncture therapy is to promote health and alleviate pain through the balancing of the body’s vital energy flow known as “Qi.” Your acupuncture practitioner assesses the flow and distribution of Qi within its pathways or “meridians” much like how a western medical doctor monitors the circulation of blood within blood vessels.

The innate wisdom of the human body is to achieve and maintain homeostasis. If the Qi flowing in the meridian becomes blocked due to internal or external imbalances, the natural healthy state of the body becomes disordered, homeostasis is lost and the stage is set for illness and disease to manifest.

  • Yoga Therapy

Yoga Therapy is a mind-body modality that looks to integrate the entire self.

When we take a step back and look at the client through a holistic lens, we recognize that the body holds memories, emotions, and sensations. The integration of yoga therapy can further help process and release the stored memories, emotions and physical sensations.

Yoga therapy may include: gentle movement, mindful movement, mindfulness exercises, meditation, somatic awareness exercises, diaphragmatic breathing, relaxation exercises, guided imagery, and visualization.

Please be aware, yoga therapy is not for every client and/or clinical concern; thus, you will discuss in detail at the onset of therapy if this approach is an appropriate fit.

  • Nutritional Therapy

The goal of Nutritional Therapy is to bring balance to the body via the core foundations of health. Everything in the body is connected, and when we support the foundations of health like eating whole, nutrient dense food, digestion, proper hydration, blood sugar regulation, mineral balance, stress management and sleep, these issues can resolve naturally.

Nutritional Therapy Practitioners (NTP) firmly believe that our bodies are designed to heal themselves and thrive when given the proper tools. Thus, they take a bio-individual approach, specifically creating custom protocols for you based on your current nutrition, lifestyle, deficiencies and any imbalances that you may be experiencing. NTPs are not trained to diagnose or treat pathological conditions, injuries, or diseases.

  • Fitness Trainer

Exercise and movement of the body play a significant role in maintaining your mental health and overall well-being. Research has shown that exercise improves mental health by reducing anxiety, depression, and negative mood and by improving self-esteem and cognitive function (Callaghan, 2004).

Our certified personal trainer will work with you to develop goals for your physical health. You will define your individual needs, such as improving your muscular endurance, strengthening cardiovascular capabilities, or increasing your physical flexibility to name a few. When working with our certified personal trainer, your individualized plan will be created in collaboration with your therapist to enhance your overall treatment goals.

  • Sound Therapy

Sound healing, which is an ancient healing technique, uses tonal frequencies to bring the body into a state of vibrational balance and harmony. It is said that sound healing can be traced back 40,000 years.

During a sound healing session, also known as a sound bath, you'll typically lie down on the floor or a yoga mat (or sitting with eyes open), and simply listen as our practitioner plays a variety of instruments. As it feels safe and comfortable, you are invited to "bathe" in the soothing sounds and vibrations.

Essentially, the sound frequencies slow down brain waves to allow for the body to drop into a deeply restorative state, which activates the body's system of self-healing.

  • Energy Therapy

Energy healing is a holistic practice that activates the body's subtle energy systems to remove blocks. By breaking through these energetic blocks, the body's inherent ability to heal itself is stimulated.

Reiki is the Japanese tradition of energy healing, and it dates back to the early 20th century. The seven chakras (yogic philosophy) or the energy transmission centers of the body, were first described in ancient Hindu texts.

One intention is to stimulate the body's natural ability to heal, while recognizing the power of internal energy.

  • Clinical Massage

A growing body of research is supporting the positive impact of massage therapy for relief of stress, anxiety, and depression.

Clinical massage therapy refers to the use of touch through kneading and manipulating the soft tissue of the body to aid with circulation, relaxing the muscles, and addressing problem areas. Massage is one of the oldest and most accessible forms of therapy.

The goal of clinical massage therapy is to increase your overall health and wellbeing through addressing the root causes that may be creating physical, mental, or emotional distress.

  • Breathwork & Meditation

Studies have found that breathing practices and meditation can help reduce symptoms associated with anxiety , insomnia, post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, and attention deficit disorder.

Breathwork describes a group of exercises that teach you to manipulate your breathing rate and depth with the goal of bringing awareness to your breath, elicit the body's relaxation response, reduce blood pressure, and become more present.

Meditation can be defined as a set of techniques that are intended to encourage a heightened state of awareness and focused attention. Meditation comes in many different forms such as guided meditation, walking meditation, or silent meditation just to name a few.
