Individual Therapy

Recent research has shown that verbalizing our feelings can have a significant therapeutic effect on the brain (University of California Los Angeles, 2007). Individual therapy (sometimes called psychotherapy, talk therapy, or treatment) is a process through which clients work one-on-one with a trained mental health clinician in a safe, caring, and confidential environment.

Therapy allows individuals to explore their feelings, beliefs, and behaviors, work through challenging or influential memories, identify aspects of their lives that they would like to change, better understand themselves and others, set personal goals, and work toward desired change.

Safe and neutral space

Therapy at Nourished Wellness Group provides a safe space to explore your struggles with someone trustworthy and unbiased. It allows you to uncover unconscious material like uncomfortable thoughts and feelings in a non-judgemental way.

Increased awareness

Awareness is one of the foundational components of therapy. As you build insight into yourself and your struggles, you better understand yourself, others, and the world. You begin to connect present-day behaviors with past experiences. This awareness eventually leads to cultivating a sense of healing and defining your core values to live more enriched lives.

coping strategies

We all struggle from time to time. We are human. Thus, it is critical to have adequate coping skills and strategies for when big emotions and physical sensations arise. Therapy offers specific tools for your particular struggle. Coping skills for both the mind and body will be explored and experimented.

The Benefits

  • Build Insight & Release

Therapy can help you gain a deeper understanding of yourself. This reintroduction to your true self allows you to clearly identify your needs, experience relief from unwanted symptoms, and ultimately, feel balanced and whole. Therapy provides a container to emotionally and physically release emotions, memories, experiences, and energy that have been held in the mind & body for too long. This release creates a more balanced way of being.

  • Improve physical health

You may have already noticed that your symptoms show up in the mind and the body. Anxiety might result in racing thoughts and a heart rate to match or feelings of overwhelm coupled with digestive issues. As you experience growth & mental health benefits in therapy, you also may notice a significant change in stress levels, sleeping habits, and physiological symptoms. These benefits can have a cascading effect on our well-being.

  • Connect to yourself + others

Individual therapy is a space for you to identify your values, needs, intentions, and boundaries, just to name a few. It’s an invitation to get closer to who you are and how you want to be. It allows space to shed or deconstruct faulty programming, like negative core beliefs embedded since childhood. As you cultivate self-alignment, a positive working relationship with your therapist offers a unique sense of connection, safety, and support.

FAQs

  • We are an integrative, holistic mental health group practice. As a practice, one of our foundational values is to incorporate the mind and body into clinical treatment, given their intrinsic connection. Talk therapy at Nourished looks a bit different. We take a nervous system-oriented approach and may suggest incorporating specific mind-body modalities into your session, such as walk-talk therapy, yoga therapy, EMDR, Brainspotting, holistic community providers or somatic experiencing. We work to ensure the whole self is considered.

  • Good question! You and your therapist will collaboratively work to build treatment intentions and goals. Based on your specific intentions, you will explore which holistic provider may be nourishing to your overall goals. A soft handoff will be provided to you and your holistic provider. A release of information will be obtained so that both your therapist and holistic provider will coordinate care.

  • There’s absolutely no pressure to work with our holistic providers. We approach individual therapy from a mind-body, nervous-system oriented approach so even if you are not interested in supplemental offerings, you will still receive talk therapy from a holistic lens.

  • We get this question a lot. And the answer isn’t always straightforward; it’s different for everyone. While our readiness for therapy varies, here are a few common signs that it might be time to start treatment:

    • You feel stuck and struggle to navigate life’s stressors

    • You feel anxious, irritable, or overwhelmed more days than not

    • You notice disproportionate feelings of anger, rage, resentment, or other strong emotions

    • Getting through the day feels hard

    • You want to unlearn, emotionally evolve and break generational patterns

    • You need a safe space to feel seen, heard, guided, and supported

    • You feel rundown, burnout and struggle to find joy in life
